Director of Admissions

Function

The Director of Admissions is responsible for the administration and oversight of the Office of Admissions, along with the recruitment for all degree programs of the Seminary.

Organizational Relationship

The Director of Admissions reports to the Dean of Community Life directly and to the President indirectly.

Responsibilities

The Director of Admissions participates in the Seminary’s mission to prepare students for ministry by:

  • Designing and implementing strategies for recruiting students by
    • Traveling to colleges, conferences, and church gatherings
    • Planning on-campus visits for prospective students
    • Planning virtual visit opportunities for prospective students
    • Planning Explore LPTS (on-campus visit days), and other opportunities for gathering prospective students,
    • Preaching and/or public speaking for recruitment-related events and partner churches and organizations,
    • Tracking persons inquiring about admissions through the application and admissions process, and other such strategies, and by
    • Developing and implementing innovative and creative recruitment efforts within multiple human intersectional sources.
  • Working collaboratively within the seminary community by
    • Serving on the Seminary Council and its Community Affairs Committee
    • Serving on the Community Affairs Committee of the Board of Trustees
    • Serving on the Admissions Application Review Committee and working collaboratively with other student support services administrators, faculty, the Philanthropy & Stewardship Office, the Director of Communications, the Academic Dean, and the President of the Seminary
  • Planning and implementing New Student Orientation by
    • Organizing pre-orientation communications with incoming students over the summer
    • Creating and monitoring New Student Orientation Canvas Course
    • Collaborating with other Seminary divisions/offices in preparing incoming students, and by
    • Running Orientation events including the Campus and Community Partners Fair
  • General administration of the Admissions Office, including writing reports, planning and managing a budget, supervising recruitment and admissions personnel, and
    • Facilitating and managing the admissions process of applicants
    • Interviewing and counseling prospective students, and assisting prospective students and admitted students in their process of vocational discernment
    • Participating in the process of awarding Presidential Scholarships
    • Being committed to and working toward increasing the racial, cultural, gender, and ecumenical diversity of the student body
    • Conduct weekly check-ins with Admissions Specialist
    • Supervise Student Assistants

Knowledge, Skills, and Commitments

  • A commitment to the mission, vision and values of Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary
  • A commitment to theological education and vocational formation for preparation for ministry
  • Knowledge of the polity and process of ministry preparation in various faith traditions from which prospective students are drawn, including, but not limited to, the PC(USA), Episcopal Church, United Methodist Church, the AME, AMEZ, and CME churches, the United Church of Christ, Baptist and non-denominational traditions.
  • Energy and imagination, excellent relational skills, and enjoyment and care for students
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • A commitment to the practice of collaborative leadership
  • A thorough acquaintance with theological education or, preferably, a theological degree
  • Demonstrated administrative ability and experience
  • Awareness of and a commitment to issues of justice and equity
  • A minimum of two years of admissions and/or recruitment related experience and/or other related higher education experience
  • Excellent organizational and pastoral skills and a strong commitment to ministry and the church
  • Familiarity with current technology, including enrollment management software and Microsoft office software, Canvas, Zoom, data analysis, and a working knowledge of enrollment forecasting and marketing principles.
  • Ability to travel (approximately 5–10 days/month) and physical ability to lift up to 40 lbs
